Pennsylvania Jury Awards Woman $2.3 Million in Malpractice Case

Posted on Monday, November 9th, 2009 at 3:12 pm

A Pennsylvania woman was awarded $2.3 million by a unanimous vote of the eight-person jury which heard her malpractice case. The damages were awarded for pain and suffering which came as a result of a hospital causing her to need an abdominal hysterectomy following a post-pregnancy infection. If you have been the victim of medical malpractice, the lawyers of Levinson-Axelrod may be able to get you the compensation you deserve.

The woman had gone to a hospital to have her second child. She delivered safely, but standard blood work showed an unsafe decrease in her white blood count. Her physician was not made aware of the blood work, and she was discharged. However, an infection soon developed and she was back in the hospital six days later. Her condition required a complete abdominal hysterectomy, which could have been prevented had her doctor been made aware of the blood work.
