Medical Malpractice Suit Filed by Former Inmate

A former inmate is suing the doctor of Passaic County jail for allegedly failing to diagnose him with a serious bone infection when he was an inmate. The plaintiff was in jail from September 2005 until January 2006 and visited the infirmary 45 times. During 14 of those visits the defendant was his doctor. The former inmate complained of severe back pain. An MRI or other neurological tests were never conducted. About a week after leaving the prison, the former inmate was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, which is a bacterial infection of the bone marrow.
The former inmate now suffers from permanent nerve damage in his spine. The plaintiff is suing for pain, suffering, and other damages.
