Family plans on suing Garfield and Bergen counties

Posted on Thursday, January 12th, 2012 at 5:44 pm

The family of a 19 year-old man who was killed by Garfield and Bergen county police officers are planning on filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the counties.

Their relative was shot early last month after he fled from a police station where he was to be charged with assault. Police found him in a residential garage and say he armed himself with tools he found inside.

Supporters are planning on marching to protest the murder and claim police used excessive force. Despite Garfield County officials rejecting supporters’ permit application to demonstrate, family and friends plan to march from his home to the site of his death.
