Riot at Egyptian soccer game leads to 74 deaths

A soccer match at the Port Said stadium in Egypt led to a bloody massacre of 74 people. The home team was favored to win, but it didn’t work out that way.

Al-Masry lost to Al-Ahly with a score of 3-1. After the game, large crowds of fans flooded the stadium grounds. People are blaming the negligence of the military personnel on hand for the chaos that followed the end of the game. Thousands of people were located on the grass of the field, when fans began to pull knives and harmful objects out of their pockets.

Fans of the losing team were chased to areas where they could not evacuate, due to large locked gates. The individuals were pushed up against the gates when they were attacked by the opposing fans. After the madness subsided, a total of 74 people had lost their lives and hundreds were injured.

An investigation into the murders is underway and at this time it is not known if this was a politically-motivated attack or not.
